Athenians claim county

Crawfordsville wasted little time to show who would win Wednesday’s home clash against rival North Montgomery. The Athenians turned the county championship game into a rout by beating the Chargers 8-1.

Crawfordsville jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead and exploded for five goals in the second half. The Chargers got on the board with their only goal in the second half.

The Athenians received three goals by David Estrada and two goals by Dario Huesca. Scoring one goal apiece were Adrian Munoz, Dio Freeze and Eduardo Cesar-Hernandez.  Athenians assists were recorded by Huesca with two. Dylan Figuero and Katio Koyanagi each had one assist.

Crawfordsville had 22 shots on goal.

Athenian goalkeeper Luke Bush had three saves in the win.

North Montgomery coaches do not report statistics for their
players.

The win assured Crawfordsville with a second place finish in the Monon Athletic Conference standings.

Crawfordsville (12-2, 6-1 MAC) will play at Indianapolis Scecina (4-5-1) on Saturday.

North Montgomery (5-8-1, 2-5 MAC) will play host to Indianapolis Math & Science Academy North (9-1) on Tuesday.

 

TENNIS

Athenians beats Danville

Crawfordsville defeated Danville 3-2 on Wednesday.

Winning for the Athenians were No. 1 singles Henry Bannon over Colby Brooks 6-1, 6-1 and No. 3 singles Kent Calvert beat Sam McRoberts 6-1, 7-5. No. 1 doubles Jayden Jimenez and Andrew McCoy beat Oliver Riggs and Cia Sherwalt 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.

Danville winners were No. 2 singles Jordan Carter Darks who beat Jordan Archer 4-6, 7-5, 4-6 and No. 2 doubles Grant Speheger and Luka Woodruff beat Carter McDorman and Silas Hartnett 6-4, 3-6, 0-6.
