Golf season ends

North Montgomery and Southmont golf teams saw their seasons come to an end Friday at the IHSAA Regional played at Harrison Hills.

North Montgomery placed ninth with a score of 414 and the Mounties finished in 14th place carding a 468.

Charger senior Mallory Inskeep closed out her career with a county-best 98.

Other Charger scores were Hadlie Horn 101, Isabelle Hamby 106, Marlee Reed 109 and Addison Sabo 128.

The Mountie Kayle Perez led her team by carding a 109. Lanie Ramsey and Emma Gleason each shot 117. Harmony Ramsey shot 125 and Addison Kendricks 132.

Zionsville won the regional by shooting 287. MAC Champion Western Boone placed seventh and shot 388.

Zionville’s Olivia Patton was the medalist by shooting 69.

 

TENNIS

WRC conducts tourney

The Wabash River Conference boys tennis tournament was held Saturday at Fountain Central

Singles players and doubles teams were entered into a tournament to determine individual honors. Joel Miller (Parke Heritage), Zach Reynolds (Seeger), Prestyn Hughes (Seeger) and Jayce Crosley (Parke Heritage) earned all-WRC honors in singles. Reynolds earned his third all-WRC honor and will take on Crosley at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Crosley earned his first all-WRC honor.

Squaring off in the other semifinal match will be Hughes and Miller, each earning all-WRC honors for the second time in their careers.

In doubles action, Seeger’s tandem of Jack Odle and Macyn Hughes will face Jackson Jenkins and Lucas Busenbark of Parke Heritage on Monday. This will be the second all-WRC honor for both Jenkins and Odle.  Busenbark is celebrating his first honor, while Macyn Hughes of Seeger has earned all-WRC honors all four years of high school.

Ayden Batchelor of Fountain Central earned the Terry Field WRC Sportsmanship Award, was presented between Monday’s singles semifinal and championship matches. Batchelor, a senior at Fountain Central, also participates in football, basketball and baseball.

The team championship is determined by dual match results during the regular season, with the Seeger Patriots earning the WRC crown as a team, finishing 5-0 in dual match play.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Covington defeats Chargers

North Montgomery lost 5-2 at Covington on Saturday.

North Montgomery (8-5-1) played host Monday to Faith Christian (7-4). Covington (10-2-1) played North White (0-10) on Monday at the Trojan Complex.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Area teams compete at Benton Central

North Montgomery placed second in both the boys and girls meet at Saturday’s Benton Central Bison Stampede Invitational.

In the girls’ meet, the Chargers scored 44 points behind Lafayette Jefferson’s 27 points to win the event. Southmont placed third and Frontier was fourth. Fountain Central did not have a complete team.

Mountie Hayleigh Boots (21:28) placed fifth.

Chargers placing in the top 20 were led by Sarah Hopper (21:57) in sixth and Kaitlyn Kunz (22:44) in 10th. Kendra McClamroch (23:27) placed 14th.

Fountain Central’s Ana Maltsberger (24:14) finished in 17th best.

In the boys meets, Lafayette Jeff won with 42 points and the Chargers scored 74. The Mountie placed third with 107 points. The Mustangs team was incomplete.

North Montgomery’s Drew Dark (16:39) and Cooper Stephens (17:25) finished in first and second, respectively. Dark’s time set North’s Junior Class Record.

Southmont’s Trent Reeves (17:54) finished the course in eighth place. Mountie Jackson Fruits (18:38) placed 18th .

Fountain Central’s Alan Melchor (18:47) placed in the 20th spot.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Mustangs place second

Fountain Central placed second in the annual Bi-County Tournament. Covington beat the Mustangs in the championship match.

The Mustangs beat Attica in the tournament’s first game by set scores of 25-3, 25-13.

Covington won the championship in two sets. The scores were 25-18, 25-9.
