Seeger sweeps WRC championship
Seeger claimed both singles and doubles championship Monday at the Wabash River Conference Championship played at Fountain Central.
Seeger, a team that is having a great season, claimed both of the singles players in the championship in Prestyn Hughes and Zack Reynolds.
Hughes defeated Parke Heritage’s Joel Miller 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 and Reynolds advanced by beating Parke Heritage’s Jayce Crosley 6-2, 6-0.
Hughes defeated his teammate Reynolds 6-3, 7-5 to win the crown.
In the doubles final, Seeger’s Macyn Hughes and Jack Odle defeated Parke Heritage’s Jackson Jenkins and Lucas Busenbark 6-4, 6-0.
All of the players named above earned inclusion on the all-WRC Team.
Seeger was the WRC team champion.
Local sectionals underway
The IHSAA on Sunday announced sectional pairings for area tennis teams.
At Crawfordsville on Tuesday, Western Boone (13-4) played host Crawfordsville (13-4). The winner of the match will play Southmont on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, North Montgomery (9-9) will play Lebanon (3-13).
The Thursday winners will play in the championship at 5:15 p.m. Friday.
The Fountain Central Sectional will begin Wednesday when Parke Heritage (11-5) takes on South Vermillion (2-11).
The other Wednesday match will be Covington (5-8) playing Fountain Central.
The two winners will face off at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the championship.
Champions from both sectionals will advance to the Carmel Regional scheduled for Oct. 6-7.
GIRLS SOCCER
Chargers down Faith Christian
North Montgomery defeated Faith Christian 4-1 on Monday in Lafayette.
After trailing 1-0 at the half, the Chargers scored four second half goals.
North’s Olivia Nuppnau scored two goals and had one assist as did Genesis Reyes.
Ava Leader scored a goal and Savannah Ratcliff had an assist.
North Montgomery (9-5, 3-3 MAC) played their last regular season game at home Wednesday against Speedway (2-11-1).
Mounties lose to Terre Haute North
Southmont lost 1-0 on Monday at Terre Haute North.
The score was knotted until Patriot’s Amaya Phillips found the back of the net in the second half for the game’s only goal.
The Mounties have now lost four of the last five matches all by one goal.
Southmont (7-6-1, 4-2 MAC) travels Thursday to McCutcheon (3-10-1).
VOLLEYBALL
Mustangs lose to Frontier
Fountain Central traveled Monday to Frontier and lost in straight sets. Scores were 26-28, 16-25, 18-25.
Leading the Mustangs were Aubrey Ashwill with five kills and three blocks. Chloe Ayers had 16 assists and four aces. Mallory Massey had 13 digs.
Chargers win at home
North Montgomery defeated North Vermillion on Monday on the Chargers’ home court.
Set scores were 24-26, 25-23, 25-17, 15-3.
Leading the Chargers were Kate Merica with nine assists and four digs. Mallory Denham and Paisley Gillan each had three kills.
North (9-10) traveled Tuesday to Attica (0-14) .
