Athenians defeat Mounties

Crawfordsville got back in the win column on Thursday by beating county and Monon Athletic Conference rival Southmont. The Athenians won 4-1.

Winning for the Athenians were No. 2 singles Jordan Archer over Ethan Hutchison 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 singles Kent Calvert over Mason Clouse 6-1, 6-0.

Crawfordsville won both doubles matches. No. 1 doubles Jayden Jimenez and Andrew McCoy beat Andrew Badertcher and Ben Grurele 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 doubles Carter McDorman and Silas Hartnett beat Jeb Bradley and Owen Grimes 6-1, 6-0.

The Mounties’ win was at No. 1 singles when Eden Hernandez defeated Sebastian Kochert 6-1, 6-1.

Crawfordsville’s regular No. 1singles Henry Bannon was sidelined with an injury he sustained earlier this week at Central Catholic.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Athenians topple Red Ramblers

Crawfordsville won 3-0 at Attica on Thursday.

Set scores were 2-14, 25-8, 25-20.

Athenian Reese Price had eight kills. Sydney Elizondo had four aces and 20 assists and Alexis Ratcliff recorded digs.

Crawfordsville (5-5) will host North Vermillion (1-5) on Tuesday.

 

Mounties lose to Cadets

Southmont dropped a Monon Athletic Conference contest at Cascade on Thursday by a score of 3-2.

Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 11-15.

Mountie Ella Barry had four kills, four blocks and four aces.

Kaylee Turner had 30 digs and Mylee Malone recorded assists.

Southmont (2-5, 1-4 MAC) will host MAC foe Western Boone (1-11, 1-1 MAC) on Tuesday.

 

Chargers lose to Gophers

North Montgomery lost 3-2 at home on Thursday to Clinton Prairie. The Gophers won the last two sets to secure the victory.

Set scores were 18-25, 25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 12-15.

No individual statistics were available.

North Montgomery (3-5) will attempt to break their four-game losing streak at home Tuesday against Fountain Central (3-2).

 

Wildcats stop Mustangs

Fountain Central lost 3-0 at South Vermillion on Thursday.

Mustang Kendyl Nolan had six kills and Aubry Ashwill had five blocks. Chloe Ayers had 15 assists.

Fountain Central (3-2) will travel Tuesday to North Montgomery (3-5).

 

BOYS SOCCER

Chargers beaten by Bethesda

North Montgomery was soundly defeated Thursday by a good Bethesda Christian team 11-2 on the Charger pitch.

North Montgomery was behind 7-1 at the break and both teams played substitutes in the second half.

Scoring goals for the Chargers were Presley Frasier and Sam Rogers.

North Montgomery (2-4-1) will host Benton Central (1-3-1) at noon Saturday.

 

Mounties lose to Cougars

Southmont played host to North Putnam in a Monon Athletic Conference battle. The Cougars won 3-0.

No game statistics were reported by coaches.

The Mounties (2-5, 0-3 MAC) will play at county rival North Montgomery (2-4-1, 1-2 MAC) on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Chargers defeat Twin Lakes

North Montgomery won 1-0 at Twin Lakes on Thursday.

Charger Gracie Ratcliff scored the winning goal for North Montgomery in the second half.

Goalkeeper Addison Johnson recorded the shutout.

North Montgomery (5-1) will play host to Benton Central (6-2) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
