Athenians play in Macy Invitational
Crawfordsville played host to the annual Steve Macy Invitational on Saturday. Due to the heat, the format was changed to each team playing a dual format.
Crawfordsville opened by playing Lake Central. The Athenians lost 1-4. In the second game the Athenians defeated Edgewood 4-1.
Winning against Lake Central was the No. 2 doubles of Silas Hartnett and Carter McDorman with scores of 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
Athenian winners against Edgewood were No. 1 singles Jordan Archer 6-2 ,6-1 and No. 2 singles Kent Calvert 6-2, 6-1.
Both Crawfordsville doubles teams won. At No.1 doubles Jayden Jimenez and Andrew McCoy won 6-1, 6-2 and Hartnett and McDorman won 6-2. 6-1.
Southmont at McCutcheon Invite
Southmont played Saturday at the McCutcheon Invitational. The event was shortened due to the extreme heat.
The Mounties lost to Lapel 0-6 and Benton Central 0-6.
Only Mountie No. 1 singles Ethan Hernandez played against McCutcheon losing 2-6, 2-6 to Bryson Metzgar.
The Mounties travel Tuesday to Monon Athletic Conference foe Frankfort.
FOOTBALL
Mustangs lose WRC tilt Panthers
Fountain Central traveled to No. 1 1A and Wabash River Conference rival Riverton Parke and lost 41-20.
Fountain Central scored on a touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage to take a 6-0 lead. Parke Heritage than ran off straight points.
The Panthers led 41-6 at the half.
No game statistics were reported.
Next Friday Fountain Central (0-3, WRC 0-1) will play host to county and WRC rival Covington (1-2, 0-1 WRC) who lost to North Vermillion (1-2, 1-0 WRC) on Friday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Chargers fall to Benton Central
Benton Central’s high powered offense came to North Montgomery on Saturday. The Bison beat the Chargers 7-2.
The score was 3-1 at the break.
Scoring for North Montgomery were Genesis Reyes and Courtney Bennett. Katie Whittinghill and Bennett recorded assists.
The Chargers (5-2, 1-1 MAC) will travel Tuesday to Greencastle (5-1, 0-1 MAC).
BOYS SOCCER
Chargers lose to Bison
North Montgomery and Benton Central played in a close match Saturday on the Chargers’ pitch. The Chargers lost 4-3 after the Bison scored the lone goal in the second half.
No individual statistics were reported.
North Montgomery (2-5-1, 1-2 MAC) will play a rescheduled home game Tuesday against county rival Southmont (2-5, 0-3 MAC).
