Radio station earns Chamber’s Small Business of the Year Award

Although the 2020 Crawfordsville Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet looked a little different this year due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, the honor was fully intact.

The first of the awards given at the Sept. 3 ceremony at the Crawfordsville Country Club went to Dave Peach and Dave Long, directors of WCVL, WIMC and WCDQ radio stations.

The Chamber annually bestows awards for small and large businesses, entrepreneurs, community organizations, champions of change, distinguished women in business and up-and-comers. Chamber officials have the dilemma each year of selecting seven award winners from a pool of about 350 members.

“We’re humbled beyond belief,” Peach said. “We want to thank our staff ... and overall our community. The community and our sponsors — and the sponsors are the community — are so involved. We see them at events. We talk to them about their advertising. It is just so much fun to do what we do.”

Long is no stranger to the Chamber of Commerce, with which he and the station has been involved since 2005 “in one capacity or another.”

“We’re glad to support this,” he said. “We understand the value of the Chamber in the community and all it’s done over the years.”

The award was presented by Reclaimed by Grace owners Travis and Jami Harrington, who said the two Daves are the heartbeat of local happenings.

“The two gentlemen here with us this evening, in particular, can always be counted on to show up and provide a platform to support businesses and nonprofits alike,” Travis Harrington said. “They understand the value of networking and collaborating for the common good.”

The Small Business of the Year recipient must have 50 or fewer employees and demonstrate growth, stability, commitment and equality, according to Chamber Executive Director Cassie Hagan and Assistant Director Casey Hockersmith, who organized the event in coordination with health department guidelines.
