ELMDALE — Residents safely escaped a house fire Wednesday in Coal Creek Township.

Coal Creek firefighters responded just after 11 a.m. to the house at 6258 N. C.R. 750W. Two occupants were inside at the time of the blaze, fire chief Darren Forman said.

The flames were contained to the front part of the house, Forman said. The rest of the house had smoke damage.

“It appears to be an accidental fire,” Forman said.

Crews from Madison Township, Waynetown and Crawfordsville fire departments, and S.T.A.R. Ambulance Service also responded. Firefighters remained on the scene for up to four hours.

Property records show the house is owned by Joshua L. Wilkinson. The American Red Cross was assisting the family.
