Rotary Club awards funds

The Crawfordsville Rotary Club made $6,000 in donations last week and is now seeking two additional $1,000 recipients.

The scholarships are part of a series of fundraising efforts for area students and organizations throughout the year.

Focusing on the areas of child abuse and mental illness in youth, the club made an announcement Wednesday that any individual or organization working in these fields may apply for the funds by mail through Dec. 16.

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, the club will not be sending out returnable applications. Instead, those interested may write to the club describing their organization, what it does and how they plan to use the funds.

Sports World Inc., a philanthropic organization focused on supporting crisis in youth, has worked with Crawfordsville Rotary throughout 2020 to raise funds for the cause.

“The Golf Scramble (Oct. 24) cleared $9,000 to go towards mental health and child abuse,” Rotarian Ron Hess said. “We had five professional athletes here that day. Sold a lot of raffle tickets too.”

The club’s next major fundraiser is tentatively scheduled for May 8, 2021 through its annual Water to Wine Gala.

“That’s the first big one of the year, so we ought to make it a good one,” Hess said.

Those interested in applying for the scholarships may send an application to Crawfordsville Rotary Club, P.O. Box 841, Crawfordsville, IN 47933 by Dec. 16.
