Roundup: Athenians pick up wins on links and court

ATHENIANS DOMINATE BLACKHAWKS IN SEASON OPENER

Crawfordsville volleyball got their season underway on Monday with a dominating 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-8) sweep over Sheridan.

In the win Macy Bruton led the way witih 23 kills to go along with four digs and one ace. Jessica Tribble tallied 36 assists and one kill. Hallie Gayler (9), Devan Johnson (6), Brooklyn Mills (2), and Kaydence Brost (1) all recorded kills as well for CHS. Halle Elliot recorded four digs and an ace and Elyse Widmer added an ace with five digs. Rounding out the stats for the Athenians was Samantha Rohr who had five aces and five digs and served 23 points for the Athenians in the win. The CHS junior varsity also picked up a 2-0 win over the Blackhawks.

CHS begins the year at 1-0 and will travel to take on Greencastle on Thursday with the junior varsity game scheduled to get underway at 5:30.

CHS DOWNS RED RAMBLERS AND WOLVES ON LINKS

Crawfordsville girls golf picked up a win on Monday in a three-team meet at Harrison Hills against Attica and Parke Heritage. CHS shot a 222 with Attica placing second with a 227. Parke Heritage placed third with a 244.

Sadie Walker led the way for CHS with a 53. Carli Payne and Christen Saunders both shot 54’s and both Gabby Warren and McKenzie Wilson ended their rounds with 61’s. DeLaney McCarty also added a 65 for the Athenians.

CHS returns to the course on Thursday as they travel to Cloverdale.
