SOCCER: Chargers split with Wildcats in B/G Doubleheader

Posted

LINDEN — The North Montgomery boys’ soccer season is a work in progress, but strides were made on Saturday afternoon despite a 5-0 loss to South Vermillion.

The Chargers (0-3) battled the Wildcats through the first 15 minutes, but gave up three quick goals and trailed 3-0 at the half.

“I liked that,” second-year coach Tristain Hall said of the early defensive intensity. “Nick Sommers and James McClerkin they really got after it and were being good leaders.”

North Montgomery now has three games under their belt, and Hall is starting to see improvements game-by-game.

“I will say from the first two games previous, the guys have learned a lot,” he said. “There was some things in the first game against Covington that they didn’t do, that in the game against Central Catholic they kind of did, and obviously there are stepping stones that we can take from this game and go forward.”

The biggest adjustment from last season’s veteran led team to the 2020 season is an inexperienced offense.

“It’s going to have to take some confidence,” Hall said. “We have a lot of young guys that are playing on the offensive side of the ball that they just have to build that confidence and be able to go from the middle school game to the high school game.”

North Montgomery is back on the pitch at home, Tuesday against North Putnam.
