South’s Foley earns MAC golf medalist honor

DARLINGTON — Southmont senior Austin Foley placed himself in the record book as the first Monon Athletic Conference Golf Championship medalist. Playing Saturday at the Rocky Ridge Golf Club course, Foley carded a 40 on the first nine and rebounded with a 36 in the second round for a total of 76. The St. Mary’s of the Woods golf signee bettered the closest competitors by three strokes.

Greencastle shot a team total of 329 to win the championship.

A young Crawfordsville team recorded a score of 338 to place second.

Crawfordsville sophomore Owen Pierce and junior Jude Hurt each carded an 81. Sophomore Caiden Murray and freshman Jordan Archer each shot 88 and senior Colton Custer recorded a 91.

Southmont placed third. Mountie scores behind Foley were sophomore Carter Ludlow 86, junior Noah Vogel 90, junior Ethan Hutchison 94 and freshman Carson Vaught 96.

North Montgomery finished the tournament in fifth place. Playing on their home course, the Chargers were led by junior Isaac Hamby’s 85. Junior Hayden Allen carded a 90 and senior Jackson Grundy shot 91. Sophomore Dylan Priddy recorded a 93 and junior Gavin Garver finished with a 95.

Other team placings and scores were fourth Frankfort 348, sixth Western Boone 363, seventh North Putnam 373 and eighth Cascade 381.
