St. Bernard bazaar to celebrate ‘Oktacofest’

St. Bernard Catholic Church will celebrate “Oktacofest” at its annual bazaar next weekend.

The event is set for 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 2 at the church, 1306 E. Main St., Crawfordsville.

New additions have been made to the more than century-old fundraiser. German food will be served with craft beer from Backstep Brewing Company, and there will be a “superabudance” of street tacos, said pastor Father Michael Bower.

The traditional country kitchen, pie booth, raffle and silent auction is returning, along with live music and free children’s games. Top prize for the raffle is $2,500.

There is no admission fee, but food and drink tickets can be purchased for $1. Each raffle ticket is worth $10 of food and drink tickets.

The food and drink menu includes:

• Bratwurst ($1)

• Hot dog ($1)

• Chicken taco ($2)

• Steak taco ($3)

• Spicy pork taco (Al Pastor) ($3)

• Tap beer ($2)

• Soda ($1)

• 2 bottles of water ($1)

Although the event will raise money for Montgomery County charities and the church parking lot, Bower said the main goal is to celebrate.

“We have all had a pretty rough 18 months and it is time for us to celebrate the joy of being together again and thank God for all the amazing things He has done for us.”
