LINDEN — Western Boone came to North Montgomery and took advantage of every Charger miscue enroute to a 55-6 Sagamore Conference victory.
Western Boone (3-2, 1-1) took opening drive and marched 65 yards capped off by Trevor Weakley’s 17-yard jaunt into the end zone. After Star placekicker Josiah Smith kicked his first of seven extra points, Western Boone led 7-0.
The one bright spot of the night for the Chargers took place just 10 seconds later. Quarterback Drew Norman found a streaking Austin Sulc in the middle of the field for a 70-yard touchdown pass. After the failed two-point conversion the Stars still led 7-6. It would never get closer.
North Montgomery (1-2, 0-2) could not generate enough offense to keep up with the Stars as Western Boone scored seven more touchdowns.
North Montgomery Coach Josh Thompson said his team wasted opportunities and made too many miscues in the game.
“We have to cut out the minor mistakes we are making right now,” Thompson said. “We cannot let the little things get away from us anymore.”
Thompson said his team did not play well offensively or defensively. And, he said the same problem plagues both sides of the ball.
No series of plays showed what the Charger coach was referring to than the Charger defense blocked and punt and recovered the ball on their own 11-yard line. However, on third down, the Chargers gave the ball up when the Stars intercepted a pass in the endzone on third down.
“Not taking care of little things led to giving them big plays, too many penalties and miss assignments. We have to get better,” Thompson said.
The Chargers will try to get back on track next Friday when they travel to county rival Crawfordsville.
Western Boone will travel to Frankfort.
