DOVER — For the third week in a row, North Montgomery surrendered more than 300 yards rushing to an opponent. On Friday, it was Western Boone churning out 304 yards on the ground leading to a 45-32 Monon Athletic Conference win over the Chargers.

North Montgomery had six starters on the sideline in plain clothes as injuries have hit the team, including starting quarterback Lincoln Heide who is out for the season.

The Chargers did not go down without a fight despite not being at full strength. North Montgomery was able to stay within striking distance. New starting quarterback Caden Eller came out throwing like a gunslinger. The senior transfer threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 11 of 20 passes.

Western Boone ended the game with 448 yards total to North Montgomery’s 300. North had 168 return yards in the game.

Early in the game the Chargers were trading touchdowns with the Stars. At the end of the first quarter North trailed 14-12 after not converting their two 2-point conversion attempts.

The Charger defense allowed 38 first half points as Western Boone moved the ball on the ground and through the air. The halftime score was 38-20.

The Chargers outscored Western Boone in the second half 12-7.

Speedster Clayton Brown caught four passes for 103 yards and one touchdown. Kayden Cohee had three receptions for 63 yards and a score.

Dakota Glasson had 188 all-purpose yards with two scores. The senior had an 85-yard kickoff return late in the second quarter.

Turnovers again plagued the Chargers. Western Boone recorded three interceptions.

In his first start at inside linebacker, Charger junior Wyatt Harshbarger had 10 tackles.

North Montgomery (1-4, 0-3 MAC) will travel Friday to Monon Athletic Conference rival Greencastle (1-4, 1-2). Western Boone (3-2, 3-0 MAC) will travel to Frankfort (0-5, 0-3).
