For a third-straight year, the Western Boone football team will play for a Class A state title. The Stars rolled past Evansville Mater Dei 42-7 on Friday night. Danville will join their Sagamore Conference rival at Lucas Oil Stadium next weekend when they play for a Class 3A state title after knocking off Southridge 30-7.

The Stars jumped all over Mater Dei 28-0 midway through the second quarter. Robby Taylor scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns and Cannon Brunes had a pair of first half interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Western Boone is now 10-4 and will play Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (8-6) at 11 a.m. on Friday, after Luers knocked off Pioneer 42-34 on Friday.

Danville is back in the state finals for the first time since 1999, when they lost to Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in their only state championship game appearance. The Warriors will play Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans are the defending Class 3A state champions, and have won five state titles in the last 10 years.
