What began as an alleged break in on Danville Avenue ended with a foot chase in a downtown alleyway Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.

Two K-9 units and 17 officers from multiple departments conducted a search after a male suspect fled the scene at 800 Danville Ave., Crawfordsville Police Chief Mike Norman said.

“We had reports of a break in at approximately 2 p.m. ... while investigating, a person took off in a vehicle and then fled on foot,” Norman said. “A chase took place and K-9 units were called in to track the subject.”

K-9 units located the male subject hiding in an alleyway behind the Carnegie Museum at 222 S. Washington St. where he was taken into custody without incident.

“Nobody was hurt and no shots were fired,” Norman said. “The subject was hiding and eluding officers, but the K-9 track worked.”

The name of the male subject has not been released at this time.

Officers from the Crawfordsville Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Waynetown took part in the search.
