KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — Two teenage brothers who were members of a flying club were among the three people killed in a plane crash near a north central Indiana airstrip, authorities said Monday.

The crash Sunday morning killed Liam Patrick Kelly, 17, and Reece David Kelly, 15, both of Carmel, and the pilot, Jerral Alan Long, 63, of Kokomo, Capt. Jordan Buckley of the Howard County Sheriff's Office said.

A third teenager, 17-year-old Cameron Wagler of Greentown, is hospitalized in stable condition, Buckley said.

A preliminary investigation shows the Piper PA-32 craft was approaching the Glenndale Airport airstrip southwest of Kokomo for a routine landing when it struck a utility pole, causing the plane to nose-dive into a cornfield, where it caught fire, Buckley said.

The three teenagers belonged to a club called the “Flying Squirrels” and were flying before a charity event at the airstrip, Buckley said.

Kokomo is about 60 miles north of Indianapolis.
