TENNIS: Mustangs blank Athenians

VEEDERSBURG — Fountain Central’s boys tennis team got back to its winning ways with a 5-0 win over Crawfordsville on Thursday.

At No. 1 singles Carson Eberly defeated Austin Motz 6-1, 6-1, while Jacob Keeling beat Thatcher Gambrel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Sawyer Keeling handed Peyton Groumoutis a 6-0, 6-0 loss at No. 3 singles.

In the doubles positions, the duo of Cody Linville and Denton Otero beat Owen Bennett and Zach Fichter 6-2, 6-0, while Carter Merryman and CJ Yager beat Ziar Morgan 6-0, 6-0. 

“I was really happy with the way our players responded after a tough loss last night,” Fountain Central coach Chris Webb said. “Some guys were given a different look tonight to work on various skills, and they responded extremely well. We have a very tough opponent Tuesday in Covington, and are looking forward to getting a day to practice tomorrow.”
