God's Good News For Today

The promises of God

Posted

What a joy to know that God has made us some wonderful promises that He will never break. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world …” (2 Peter 1:4).

DL Moody in his book, “Prevailing Prayer,” tells a story about the promises of God. “The Bible is packed with so many promises it is hard to count them. One man tried, a school teacher named Everett R. Storms of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. He determined to count the promises in the Bible. He read through the Bible 26 times, so during his 27th reading, he took a year and a half and as he read, he counted all the promises. He came up with 7,487 promises made by the Almighty God to humans. That is over 20 promises for each day throughout the whole year. Praise the Lord!

Do you remember the little box shaped loaf of bread, about 2 1/2 inches by 1 inch? It was called “The Promise Loaf.” It was packed with Bible verses printed on small cards that you would take one and read each day. I used them to memorize scripture.

What a joy to know we can count on God’s promises. Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” On the authority of the Word of God and immutable (unchangeable) character of God, we can be sure not one of those 7,487 promises will be broken. The Bible also says, “God is not a man, that He should lie; neither should He repent; hath He said, and shall not He do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)

Be encouraged friends! God will keep everyone of them. Read your Bible and find them.
