The Sassy Little Diva, Junie B. Jones, coming to MDT

Posted

HILLSBORO — The Theatre for Young Audiences production in Myers Dinner Theatre’s 26th Anniversary season will be Junie B. Jones, The Musical, opening at noon Friday and running through May 15.

Created by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, the team that brought you Dear Edwina, comes Junie B. Jones, The Musical — a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s best-selling books, brought to life in a genuinely comical (and not strictly-for-kids) musical developed by TheatreworksUSA. Awaken a young person’s desire to read with the sassy little diva, Junie B. Jones, and her adventures in first grade.

It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie’s friend, Lucille, doesn’t want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting. DRae Beller will be at the helm playing Junie B. in this hilariously charming musical. Also, featured in this cast are MDT alumni Emmie Wright, Ty Hanes, Nathan Roberts and Ryan Lynch (assistant choreographer). Nicole Leis will be debuting in her first MDT production. The staff of this production will be TJ Bird (director), Dion Stover (artistic director), Jessica Alltop (ASM) and Gary Michael (technical director).

MDT will offer this Theatre for Young Audience production weekdays on May 6, 11 and 13 with seating at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and the show at 1 p.m. Additional shows outside of school hours will be on May 7, 8, 14 and 15 with seating at 12:30 p.m., lunch at 1 p.m. and the show at 2 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased by phone at 765-798-4902, ext. 2, or by visiting the MDT website at www.myersdt.com. Performance dates vary, so consult the online calendar for show dates and times. Theatre prices are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Prices do not include taxes and handling fees.
