COVINGTON — This summer the Beef House Dinner Theatre will produce a brand-new original jukebox inspired by the events on Feb. 3, 1959, the day the music died and other significant dates in American music history.
In the new show, The Day the Music Lived, it’s 65 years to the day after Buddy Holly perished in that infamous crash. A snowstorm rages at a small Midwest airport and all flights are cancelled. Seven stranded strangers with nothing but their devices, a few musical instruments and time on their hands, begin a conversation about their shared love of music. With music made famous by Buddy Holly, John Denver, Jim Croce, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Otis Redding, Ricky Nelson and Patsy Cline, The Day the Music Lives reminds us why some songs can stand the test of time and how they connect us all. Both witty and heart-felt, The Day the Music Lived will leave audiences humming many tunes they love and remember.
Popular local musicians Logan Kirby and Chrissy Sparks lead a cast of talented actor/musicians in this nostalgic show. Kirby has been performing at the Beef House Dinner Theatre since he made his debut in the 2016 production of Million Dollar Quartet. His band, The Logan Kirby Band, plays at many locations in the Illiana area. Sparks is a popular pianist and singer performing in many locations across the Midwest as well as the annual Country Music Cruise with her dueling piano partner Tim Atwood. In The Day the Music Lived, Sparks and Kirby portray the roles of Molly Davenport, a retired hippie music teacher and Brody Baxter, a band leader with a resemblance to Buddy Holly, respectively. Additional cast members include Tim Kirby as Mitch, Noah Acree as Steve, Ky’Eshia Maze as Tinisha, Laynie Ferriman as P.J., Chris Taylor as Eddie and Todd Gallagher as Cal.
The Day the Music Lived opens with an evening performance on July 10 followed by matinees on July 11, 12, 16, 18 & 19 as well as an additional evening show on July 17.
All seats are $72 and include the show, a bountiful buffet dinner, salad, famous Beef House rolls, soft drink, dessert, tax & fees. Show only tickets are available as well for a reduced price.
