Tiger Cubs pass over Chargers

GREENCASTLE — North Montgomery had no answer against Greencastle’s passing game in Friday’s 40-20 loss. The Tiger Cubs scored on every possession but one when they fumbled the ball away.

North Montgomery Coach Josh Thompson said his team’s struggles were a result from not executing on defense and turning the ball over on crucial drives.

“Our margin of error is small and when we make mistakes we pay for them,” Thompson said. “We did not play our zone defense well against their passing and we did not show the discipline needed to win the game.”

The Chargers trailed 23-12 at the half but could only muster a late touchdown after the break while the Tiger Cubs scored 17 second half points.

The Charger defense has now allowed at least 40 points in their five losses.

Tiger Cub quarterback Stephens riddled the Chargers by completing 27 of 35 passes for 404 yards and three touchdowns. The senior added 48 yards rushing with a score.

Greencastle’s defense which had allowed over 1,000 yards in the last two games before Friday was able to play much better against the Chargers.

The Chargers were held to 119 yards on the ground on 29 rushes. North quarterback Cayden Eller completed 8-of-18 passes for 108 yards with a touchdown.

North Montgomery (1-5, 0-4 MAC) will play their homecoming game Friday against county and Monon Athletic Conference rival Crawfordsville (2-4, 1-5 MAC). Greencastle (2-4, 2-2 MAC) will travel to Cascade (5-1, 4-0 MAC) on Friday.
