Tony Wayne Horton, 68, of Mellott and formerly of Hillsboro passed away at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at home, following a lengthy illness. 

He was born Nov. 19, 1952, at Danville, Illinois, to the late Gale W. Horton and Donna Keller Shabow. He married Rachel Newman on Aug. 4, 1973, at Veedersburg. She survives.

Tony was a 1971 graduate of Fountain Central High School. Most recently he was a 12-year employee of Local #120 of the Hod Carrier Labor Union. He previously was employed 24 years with Olin/Flexel in Covington until their closure. 

He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene.  Tony loved his family and cherished his time with them. He also loved horses, had ridden them his entire life and was a member of the AQHA and the Cutting Horse Association.  He enjoyed trap shooting and buying/selling guns. He was his family’s rock! He always answered his phone.

Surviving, along with his wife, Rachel, are two daughters, Crystal (Gordon) Hansen of Covington and Sarah Rahn of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Grant Wayne Hansen, Paige Scheurich, Ross (Hana) Houchens, Shelbie (Andrew) Baldwin, Luke (Megan) Rahn and Megan (Travis) Haslam;  great-grandchildren, Bristol, Haisley, Leighton, Phoenyx and Zatanna; two sisters, Linda (Marty) Taylor of Wasilla, Arkansas, and Carrie (Justin) Thomas; brother Kenneth (Debbie) Horton of Veedersburg; and many nieces and nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, William and Cora Horton, Arnold Keller and Carrie Compton.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Please follow the recommendations of the Indiana State Board of Health in regard to COVID-19.
