TRES, PHMS honor vets

In a combined program, Turkey Run Elementary and Parke Heritage Middle School students and staff recognized and honored Veterans during a program held in the middle school gym on Nov. 11.

Carson Rolison welcomed the veterans and guests and introduced the seventh and eighth grade band who played “Young America March.” Emma Patton introduced the choir who sang the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Members of the elementary student council lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, Ashlyn Bryant, Mia Bowles, Jackie Ferguson, Michael Smith, Gabe Elizondo and Lane Helderman introduced the branches of military and veterans stood when their branch was described.

Members of the high school band then performed “Armed Forces on Parade,” which features the songs of each military branch. Maura Jacks read the poem, “Veterans Day” which was written by Syndy Sweeney.

The elementary students sang, “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “God Bless America.”

The program ended with the playing of “Taps” by Dawson Seward.
