Athenians win sectional

For the fifth consecutive year, Crawfordsville won their own IHSAA sectional on Thursday. The Athenians topped county-rival North Montgomery with a convincing 4-1 victory.

The Athenians won two of three singles matches

Athenian No. 1 singles senior Henry Bannon beat junior Carter Thompson 6-0, 6-1 and No. 2 singles sophomore Jordan Archer beat sophomore Elliot Allen 6-0, 6-4.

Crawfordsville won both doubles matches convincingly.

Athenians No. 1 doubles Jayden Jimenez and Andrew McCoy beat senior Piersyn Joyce and sophomore Kohen Bonebrake 6-2, 6-0. No.2 doubles juniors Carter McDorman and Silas Hartnett beat junior Owen DeSmet and freshman Kaden Grundy 6-1, 6-0.

North Montgomery’s lone win was in the  No. 3 singles match when freshman Cash Cole beat junior Kent Calvert 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. 

The Athenians (16-4) will play Fountain Central Sectional winner Parke Heritage (13-5) at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Carmel Regional.

The other regional contest will feature Brebeuf (13-4) against Zionsville (17-1).

 

Mustangs lose in championship

Host Fountain Central lost 4-1 to Parke Heritage on Thursday in the sectional.

The Mustangs’ lone win was in  No. 3 singles match when Hayden Hargrave beat Wesley Pratt 6-0, 6-7(4), 10-4.

Fountain Central’s No. 1 singles Ayden Batchelor lost to Joel Miller 2-6, 0-6 and No. 2 singles William Armstrong lost to Jayce Crosley 5-7,1-6.

Both Mustang doubles lost. No. 1 doubles Aiden Blankenship and Eli Sowder lost to Jackson Jenkins and Lucas Busenbark 1-6,0-6. No. 2 doubles Preston Coakley and Jerimiah Morris lost to Avery Huff and Cian Todd 2-6, 1-6.

 

GIRL SOCCER

Athenians win again

Crawfordsville won 6-1 Thursday at home against Lafayette Central Catholic improving their win streak to four.

Athenian scores were by Inga Freeze (4) and Alea Seward (2).

Seward, Freeze and Alyvia Wilhoite each had an assist.

Next up for Crawfordsville (10-4-1) will be in the IHSAA Danville Sectional match against North Montgomery (10-5-1) on Monday.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Mounties lose to Stars

Southmont and Western Boone (3-9) played a close game on Thursday. The Stars won 8-7 on their home pitch.

Southmont coaches did not provide player statistics.

Southmont (6-10) plays Danville (5-5-5) in the IHSAA Danville Sectional on Tuesday.

 

Athenians lose to Warriors

Crawfordsville lost for just the third time on Thursday. Danville, playing at home, defeated the Athenians 2-1.

Crawfordsville coaches did not report their player statistics.

Crawfordsville (13-3) will play Western Boone (3-9) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the IHSAA Danville Sectional.

 

Chargers win

North Montgomery (6-9-1) defeated Delphi (3-7-1) at home on Thursday.

Charger coaches did not report player statistics.

North Montgomery will face off with Monrovia at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Danville Sectional.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Mustangs beat Falcons

Fountain Central defeated North Vermillion 3-0 on Thursday.

Game scores were  25-20, 25-17,25-14.

Mustang Patience Bixler led the way with seven kills.

Fountain Central (11-12, 2-3 WRC) is back in action on Tuesday for another conference game at Riverton Parke (10-10, 3-2 WRC).

 

Chargers drop game to Stars

Western Boone traveled to MAC foe North Montgomery on Thursday and defeated the Chargers 3-1.

Game scores were 22-25, 14-25, 25-15, 13-25.

Leading the Chargers were Mallory Denham with eight kills and Caelyn Carpenter with five kills. Kendall Barnett had four aces. Lilly Graham had 13 digs and Kate Merica had 22 assists.

North Montgomery (11-11) will travel to Sheridan (14-10) on Wednesday.

 

Athenians beat Bronchos

Crawfordsville played host to Lafayette Jefferson on Thursday and won 3-0.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-16.

Athenian Reese Price had 16 kills. Sydney Elizondo had 28 assists.

Crawfordsville (16-10) has now won four straight games and will host Clinton Prairie (12-14) on Monday.

 

Mounties lose to Wolves

Southmont played host to Parke Heritage on Thursday and lost 3-0.

Set scores were 28-30, 20-25, 19-25.

Coaches did not report player statistics.

The Mounties (9-10) will play at Monrovia on Monday.
