Summer Fun

Waveland Summer in the Park

Posted

What sounds better on a hot steaming Friday night than a game of “Waterball”?  Waveland Volunteer Fire Department invites you to the Waveland town park this Friday to experience it.

Waterball is a game that firefighters started playing in the 1940s to help them with teamwork & aim while controlling their water hoses. Fire Departments went head to head, shooting a strong stream of water from their fire hoses at a yellow ball strung on a string above them. Whichever team got the ball moved over to the other team’s side, wins!  The demonstration on Friday night will begin at 7pm and feature individual competition between firefighters, but also include time for the community to try.  Afterward, those who want to cool down and get soaked are welcome to play in the stream of water.

The evening kicks off at 5:30pm with music by Waylon Gomez.  Waylon began playing guitar when he was just 6 years old. Under the instruction of Pamela Myers at Music on Grant in Crawfordsville, IN he learned music theory, how to play and read music while performing at recitals and competitions, winning many awards. With this foundation and his natural gift, he learned to play by ear and memory. This broadened his musical repertoire from the classics to the most modern songs and everything in between. Waylon has performed at festivals, fairs, parties, private events and several musicals at school, the local theater and church. In the fall of 2022 he will be starting his junior year at Southmont High School, where he is a straight-A student and talented athlete.  This talent is not to be missed.

Waveland Strong will also have food and concessions for sale, featuring grilled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, and hot dogs, along with concession items.

Grab your lawn chairs and bring the family for a fun evening together.
