WAYNETOWN —  Things are going to get spooky Saturday at Waynetown’s Rev. Guy Tremaine Park. The annual Oktoberfest and Halloweentown Festival begins at 11 a.m.

Halloweentown has grown to be popular with families. Activities include a hayride with Count Dracula, petting zoo, money hunt straw games, carnival games and trick or treating at 35 scheduled vendor booths.

The straw games are divided into age groups. Kids dive into straw to find money. The adult straw game includes hunting for beer caps that can be turned into the beer garden for a free brew.

Children are asked to come dressed in Halloween costume to trick or treat at the vendor booths.

The Halloweentown area decorations include large animated characters, ghosts and a haunted cemetery plus more to keep visitors on guard until 5 p.m.

Food is served in the Rusk Shelter with proceeds going toward fireworks at the Freedom Festival each June. The Oktoberfest lunch menu includes brats, fried bologna and fired Spam sandwiches, hot dogs, sauerkraut, vegetable soup, pretzels, corndogs and more including soft drinks.

The High Street Bar and Grill Beer Garden will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

Purple Sound will provide DJ music. Eric Barr and the Jammers will play 5-8 p.m. on the Freedom Stage.

Halloweentown will remain open in the park through Oct. 31 for visitors. The Waynetown Police Department will pass out candy to children on Halloween.

Sponsors for the event include Crawfordsville American Legion Post 72, Wayne Township Community Improvement, Waynetown Police Department Blue Gives Back, Waynetown Merchants Association, Crawfordsville Eagles Lodge, York Chrysler Dodge, Jeep Ram and Fiat and Fountain Trust.
