Mustangs continue to roll with Seeger Invite title

Fountain Central boys tennis just continues to pick up victories. Saturday the Mustangs traveled to compete in the first ever Seeger Invite and came away as champions of the tournament. FC scored 15 total points as Northview took second with 10 and Seeger and Rossville tied with five each.

FC had three of the five champions of the invitational as Skyler Hoagland at one singles, Gabe McCollum at two singles and the duo of Lukas Miller and Wes Jackson at two doubles all went 2-0 on the day.

At three singles Noah Armstrong fell in a three-set tiebreaker  in the championship match against Northview’s Brayden Goff 3-6, 6-1, 4-10.

Brayden Prickett and Koby Wolf would place third overall after falling in their first match in another three-set tiebraker to Seeger’s Caleb Edwards and Dylan Walters 4-6, 6-4, 11-13.

FC returns to action this evening at home as they host the Patriots looking to go 8-1 on the season.

Volleyball

Athenians battle at Greenwood Invite

Crawfordsville volleyball traveled to Greenwood on Saturday to compete in the Greenwood Invite. Against some tough competition on the day, CHS went 1-2 with their two losses coming against Scecina in 2-1 defeat and against host Greenwood 2-0.

CHS’s win came in three sets in a 2-1 win over Jennings County.

“It was a good for us to play some tough competition,” Crawfordsville coach Kelly Johnson said. “We’ll use it as a learning experience going forward.”

Over the course of the three matches on the day Macy Bruton had 55 kills and 65 digs. Elyse Widmer had 13 digs, Samantha Rohr 25 digs, and Halle Elliot tallied 56 digs. Jessica Tribble tallied 71 assists and 32 digs for CHS. Hallie Gayler added 22 kills and three blocks with Devan Johnson recording nine kills and Brooklyn Mills two kills.

CHS is 11-5 on the season and has three games this week beginning with a trip to Lafayette Central Catholic on Monday, a trip to North Putnam Tuesday, and a county matchup on Thursday as they welcome North Montgomery.

Boys Soccer

Chargers drop SAC nail-biter to Warriors

Making the Saturday morning tip to Danville, North Montgomery boys soccer would battle with Warriors for a full 80 minutes but come up just short in a 1-0 loss.

The loss for the Chargers sees their record fall to 1-8 (0-4 SAC). The Chargers return home on Tuesday when they will welcome the Sheridan Blackhawks (3-4).
