In the spring of 2020, Crawfordsville singer-songwriter Joel David Weir was supposed to travel to Europe for the first time. But COVID-19 happened.
Instead of traveling, Weir collaborated with his band members to try to capture creatively life during such extraordinary times. Recorded from distance with band members Matt Cunningham (drums) and Paul Myhre (bass) the music took a different direction from Weir’s previous Americana/indie-folk leaning records. Drawing from his childhood formation of listening to 45s of New Wave legends like Devo and Talking Heads, and focusing on minimal, raw structure with experimental arrangement, the sound that became My Quarantina was born.
The first single “Gaslighter” is currently available on all streaming platforms. The new album will be released Sept. 25. Weir is playing a special acoustic session at the Backstep Brewing outdoor Beer Garden at 7 p.m. Friday, giving local fans an opportunity to purchase the new CD a week before its national release.
