A chilling tale of suspense and murder is about to unfold, gripping audiences at the Vanity Theater in its tantalizing web of mystery.

Agatha Christie’s timeless masterpiece, “The Mousetrap,” comes to the stage, promising an unforgettable evening of whodunit intrigue. This iconic play, which has captivated audiences for over six decades, will once again leave theatergoers on the edge of their seats.

Originally penned by the “Queen of Mystery” herself, Agatha Christie, “The Mousetrap” first premiered in 1952. It has since become the world’s longest-running play. The Sugar Creek Players rendition promises to retain the classic elements that have made it a fast favorite while adding a fresh perspective to keep new audiences enthralled.

Set within the confines of a remote guesthouse, Monkswell Manor, “The Mousetrap” introduces a motley crew of characters, each harboring secrets. When a snowstorm traps them all inside, tension escalates as it becomes clear that a murderer is among them. With a mix of colorful personalities, hidden agendas, and a relentless snowstorm, the audience is drawn into a world where trust is in short supply, and everyone is a suspect. Jackie Hayden, who plays one of the naive homeowners, is making her debut as a leading lady.

“I was intimidated at first,” Hayden said. “But the more seasoned actors quickly put me at ease.”

Audiences will be left guessing until the final curtain call, trying to solve the puzzle alongside the characters. Will they discover the murderer’s identity before the characters do? Only those in attendance will find out.

Directed by Katie Melvin and produced by the Vellners, this production promises to be a tour de force of mystery and intrigue. A sponsorship from Tri-County Bank and Trust made the show possible.

Longtime member of the Sugar Creek Players, Dustin Gardner, joined the cast four days before opening night due to unforeseen circumstances.

“I’m confident I can bring the character to the stage because of the great direction and production of the show,” he said.

The cast’s skillful performance promises to capture the essence of Christie’s characters, keeping the audience spellbound throughout the performance. Betsy Strain has returned to the stage once again, speaking highly of the theater experience.

“At 81, I have found my passion,” Strain said. “I love being on the stage.”

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are  available for purchase online at https://sugarcreekplayers.thundertix.com/events/205880/.
