Wrestling Roundup: Athenians continue perfect season

Athenians claim North Putnam Invite title

Crawfordsville wrestling couldn’t have a better start to it’s season. After going 5-0 at the WeBo duals, the Athenians were back in action at the North Putnam Invite this past Saturday. Cville continued their perfect season by going a perfect 5-0 and claiming the North Putnam Invite title.

Team results for the Athenians included wins over North Putnam (50-12), South Putnam (55-23), North Vermillion (48-32), Speedway (51-27), and Terre Haute South (68-12). Individual results for the Athenians were Taiga Koyanagi going 5-0, Camron Teeple 5-0, Armando Munoz 5-0, Blayze Robbins 4-1, Parker Wray 2-3, Landon Vaught 5-0, Kollin Moore 4-1, Jaziel Gil-Herrera 4-1, Tristan Hodges 1-4, Braeden Hites 5-0, Ashton Wilson 5-0, Ariel Dominguez 2-3, and Isaiah McNorton 3-2.

Crawfordsville with the North Put Invite title improves to 13-0 on the season. CHS will have the week off to prepare for the county meet on Saturday against Southmont and North Montgomery.  The meet will be held at CHS and get underway at 9 a.m. Cville will be looking for its first county title since 2009.

Mounties compete at Calumet Duals

Southmont made the lengthy trek up to north-west Indiana on Saturday to compete at the Calumet Duals. The Mounties went 2-3 on the day with wins coming over Boone Grove (66-12) and South Bend Riley (46-33). South’s three losses were against Portage (58-16), Hanover Central (51-24), and host Calumet (35-30).

Individual Results for Southmont on the day were Cooper Scott going 1-0 (106), Brier Riggle 2-3 (120), Camden Laney 2-3 (126),  Jeffrey Pine 3-2 (132), Maddox Cade 5-0 (138), James Elliot 3-2 (144), Marlin Williams 5-0 (150), Hunter Alesi 4-1 (157), Paxton Gentry 1-4 (165), Gavyn Hayes 1-4 (175), Tyler Davis 4-1 (190), Rowan Endicott 0-5 (215), and Savion Lillard 3-2 (285).

Southmont overall is 5-7 on the season and will host South Vermillion on Tuesday.

Charger Girls place 7th at Lebanon Invite

Lebanon hosted over 400 girls wrestlers and 55 teams on Saturday at the 5th annual Lebanon Invite. North Montgomery girls had a strong showing overall with a seventh place finish. 

On the day Sophia Shea placed 5th at 130 pounds, Jovie Simpkins fourth at 135, Shanice Williams seventh at 140,  Hailey Kunz second at 145, Hannah Kincaid 6th at 145A, Chloe Douglas second at 170B, and Julia Shea second place at 190.

The Lady Chargers will now gear up for the Regional here in two weeks which will be hosted this season at Crawfordsville.
