Bessie Mae (Freeman) Brown, 84, of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Bickford Memory Care.

She was born April 29, 1936, to the late Harry and Ruby (Poling) Freeman.

Bessie graduated from Kingman High School 1954. She married the love of her life Marion Kenneth Brown on Aug. 13, 1954. She started her career at Culver Union Hospital as a housekeeper. She then went to being an aide at the hospital before becoming a nurse. As an LPN, she worked for various doctors in the area. Bessie enjoyed canning, cooking, collecting jars and traveling. Bessie and her husband traveled to various places throughout the United States. They visited the United Arab Emirates twice to visit family. She loved antiques.

Bessie is survived by her husband of 65 years; four children, Martha (Rex) Mapes, Lora (Abdulla) Almarzooqi, Dennis Brown and Allen Brown; two sisters, Alice (John) Crum and Lillian Carty; brother Harry Lee Freeman; five grandchildren, Greg, Andria, Ryan, Jassem and Jamal; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Tucker and Teagan; and brother Thomas Freeman.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the funeral home.
