LIZTON – North Montgomery’s girls soccer team’s season came to an end in the first round of the IHSAA 2A playoffs with a 7-0 loss to Tri-West.

The Chargers season ends at 2-14, while the Bruins, with their second win over North this season, advances to the sectional semifinals on Thursday, where they will take on Western Boone who defeated Crawfordsville in the opening round. The Bruins, winners of eight-straight now, stand at 9-6-2 on the season. They also won the Sagamore Conference championship with a 7-0 mark.

The Bruins got four goals in the first half to establish a comfortable lead and then extended it through the second.

Four different players scored a first half goal, as the Chargers played a tight defense close in but were not able to stop all the shots.

The Bruins put a couple more on the board in the second half as subs and jv players got extensive minutes for the Bruins. The Chargers offense opened up, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The loss also ends the soccer careers of four Chargers seniors.

“Our four seniors are Paige Hudson, Kennady Sanders, Reagan Shultz, and Kayla Hoffman, Hodges said. “We have a small senior class, with only the four. Each one has brought a unique set of leadership skills to this team that has been a huge part of our culture over the last few years. We appreciate all the effort they have given to the program, and we wish them the best in the future.  They are four really bright young ladies that will do great things, and we hope we have given them as much as they have given us, and they can take the skills they learned on the soccer field into the real world.”

Hudson was the leading scorer on this year’s team, while Hoffman was the assist leader.

Losing only four seniors means next year’s roster will have several familiar names.

Among them will be Ella McManamy, who was second-best in scoring, along with Gracie Ratcliff, Alexis Bennett, Courtney Bennett and Ava Nunam, all of whom were on the goals scored or assist board.

The Bruins own shutout wins over the Stars this season.
