With the approaching cold season and an increasing number of homeless cats, Christine Garman wanted to find a creative way to raise both awareness and funds for Cats Limited, Montgomery County’s Trap, Neuter and Release program.

She approached cat lover and owner of Quest for Balance Wellness, Jai Miranda, with an idea. What about combining an adoption day with a yoga class?

On Saturday, the studio was filled with felines as yogis found their best cat poses on their mats.

“I thought it would be a great and fun way to bring awareness of our TNR program,” Garman said.

It’s not clear who had more fun — the adoptable cats and kittens from the Montgomery County Animal Welfare League or the yogis that joined Miranda in brief yoga practices throughout the morning.

“Part of our commitment to being good stewards in our community is fulfilled when we can support other organizations including Cats Limited,” Miranda said. “And it was gratifying to watch joy and laughter fill the room. It felt good to know that the kittens got a little extra love that day and we hope that a few of them found a home as a result.”

Applications for adoption are available through the AWL website at www.mcawl.com/.

At the end of the day, proceeds included more than $500 in cash donations, bags of food and litter, and other needed supplies. The studio will continue to accept donations to Cats Limited including cash, food, litter and toys through the end of November.
