The Montgomery County Civic Band will present its annual Children’s Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday on the Lane Place grounds. Children of all ages are sure to recognize and enjoy several tunes.

For 57 years, families have been welcoming into their homes Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch and all of the Sesame Street characters. The band will play a collection of melodies from that famous street including, “C is for Cookie,” “Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street,” “Bein’ Green” and “Sing.”

Cartoons and movies will be well represented with “Pixar’s Movie Magic,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “How to Train Your Dragon.” “What’s Up at the Symphony” will explore famous Bugs Bunny tunes that borrowed their motifs from classical music.

Familiar nursery rhymes will be highlighted in Goldman’s Children’s March, where the percussion section will add their special flair to the music with bells, whistles, rachets and other noise-makers.

The program will be interactive with opportunities for children to move to music, to have a story read to them, and to conduct the band. There will also be some surprises for all children in attendance.

Audience members should bring their own lawn chairs. The concert is free of charge, but donations are greatly appreciated to support the band.
