Civic Band plans to ‘Journey On’

Posted

The Montgomery County Civic Band will conclude its 2026 concert season at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lane Place with a program titled “Journey On.”

The journeys described in the concert will vary from trips to far-away locations, to journeys back in time, and also personal journeys of faith and growth.  K.L. King’s march “New Frontiers” starts the voyage.

While traveling back to the Big Band era, listeners will enjoy the music of Glenn Miller.  Miller’s hits “In the Mood,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “A String of Pearls,” “Little Brown Jug,” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000” are favorite swing numbers from the 1940’s.

Moving forward through the next few decades will bring us to the days of American Bandstand with Dick Clark.  “Rock, Roll and Remember” includes several hit songs from the legendary dance program including “Bandstand Boogie,” “The Twist,” “Rock Around the Clock,” and “Y.M.C.A.”

The band takes a journey to France with a musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s epic novel “Les Misérables.” Then, it’s a short distance to Ireland with the tunes “Galway Bay,” “With My Shillelagh Under My Arm,” and “Dear Old Donegal.”

A quiet and contemplative composition, “In Simple Faith” lends itself to a journey of faith.  Rounding out the performance will be “Highlights from Oklahoma,” “Pride of Pittsburgh,” “Romanesque,” and “Flight of the Flutes.”

Audience members should bring lawn chairs for seating.  The concert is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
