Daniel Joe (Nick) Nichols of Conyers, Georgia passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, at the age of 67, not of the COVID-19, but other medical complications.

Dan was originally from Crawfordsville. He was born Sept. 8, 1952, at Crawfordsville. He was a 1970 graduate of Darlington High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. As a senior he was all-county, all-conference, all-sectional and all-regional. He received a four-year scholarship to the University of Evansville, where he was a key player for the Purple Aces basketball team. In 2014, Dan was inducted into the Montgomery County Basketball Hall of Fame.

Dan relocated to Georgia as an employee of Lithonia Lighting, later being employed by Cincom Systems. While working, he also owned and operated a local favorite — Nick’s Bar and Grill in Lithonia, Georgia.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Foster (Fos) and Betty (McAnulty) Nichols; brother Rich of Crawfordsville; and step-son Joseph (Jo-Jo) Sullivan of Buckhead, Georgia. He will be forever cherished by his wife of 22 years, Allison Wallace Nichols. Also surviving are his sister, Jean (Bob) Morgan of Crawfordsville; as well as nephew Eric (Carolyn) Morgan of Lafayette and nephew Aaron Morgan and niece Suzie Nichols, both of Crawfordsville.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
