Dorothea Martha Wentzel, 92, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home.

On a later date, a burial of Dorothea’s remains will be held at Camp Butler in Springfield, Illinois.

Dorothea was born in Goodhue, Minnesota on Oct. 23, 1928, to William Schramm and Dora (Bottcher) Schramm. After graduating high school Dorothea worked as a teacher for two years before becoming a homemaker, raising her five children. She then was a dietary manager at the Lewis Memorial Christian Village Nursing Home in Illinois. In Springfield, Illinois Dorothea was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church until moving to Crawfordsville, Indiana where she became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. In life she enjoyed macrame, sewing, watching birds and crafting.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Arnold Wentzel; parents, William and Dora Schramm; one sister; and four brothers.

She is survived by her four sons, Paul (Rita) Wentzel, John (Cindy) Wentzel, David Wentzel and Phil (Becky) Wentzel; daughter Lenice (Larry) Vaught; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1414 E. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville, IN 47933 or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Road, Springfield, Illinois 62704 or a charity of your choice.
