Edward Leonard Andrews Jr., 86, of Noblesville passed away at 9:29 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, at home.

Ed was born Jan. 4, 1936, at Lafayette, a son of the late Leonard (Shafe) and Lois Meharry Andrews.

Ed began his education at the Jackson Township School and matriculated from Waynetown High School with the class of 1954. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1965 after which he began his career at Purdue University, Lafayette, where he stayed for three years. Ed was named Outstanding Administrator in 1984 at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, where he worked for 38 years. Ed stated it was a privilege to serve Purdue.

Ed and Fran were involved in farming for many years. He loved the land and owned a farm in New Richmond. An avid gardener, Ed was a seed saver and was know by family and friends for his prize winning Ox Heart Tomatoes. He received great joy when working on projects with his grandson Tom and visits from his grandchildren Austin and Emilie. Hosting family gatherings at their home was very enjoyable for Ed and Fran.

While living in northwest Indiana, Ed and Fran were members of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church for 30 years. Ed served as a board member and as the Treasurer for many years. He enjoyed many friendships at the Oak Knoll Golf Course and at Fricke’s Recreation Center. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Noblesville, a charter life member of the ISU Alumni Association and the US Bowling Congress, where he served as vice president. He also belonged to the Fox Prairie Gold Club, the ISU Grand Society of Sycamores and he was a Hamilton County Urban Forester. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Bowl 32 in Noblesville. His brother, Dr. Richard Andrews, witnessed Ed’s only hole-in-one May 5, 2005, at the University of Missouri Golf Course.

Ed is survived by wife Fran; son Edward; grandchildren, Tom, Austin and Emilie; sister Ginny Leavitt of California; brother Dr. Richard Andrews of Arizona; sister-in-law Carole (Don) Andrews of Indiana; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Ed’s family will receive guests 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at First Presbyterian Church of Noblesville, 1207 Conner St., Noblesville. A celebration of life service will take place immediately following at 11 a.m., with Pastor Eric Gale officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Meharry Cemetery located on State Road 25 at C.R. 1125N, just north of Wingate and west of New Richmond. Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is assisting Ed’s family.
