Pete Walton, 67, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, in a peaceful slumber surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 22, 1954, to the late Barbara Manion Walton Nixon and Jack Walton. Pete graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1972. Soon after graduation he moved to the Chicago area to pursue a career training harness horses, a trade he learned from his grandfather, Delbert Walton.

In 1979, he married the late Pamela Jansen, and while they were divorced, he is survived by their three sons Jeff, Mike (Jamie) of Crawfordsville and Bryan of Merrillville; grandson Travis of West Lafayette; siblings, Linda Walton, Iowa City, Iowa, and her two children Claire and Matt; Rebecca (Terry) Peacock, Crawfordsville; and Timothy (Karen) Walton, West Lafayette and their two children, Elise and Olivia; and step-mother Donna Walton, Crawfordsville. Pete also leaves behind good friends, Mike Deener, Jenifer White and others too numerous to name.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and twin infant sons, Matthew and Christopher.

Pete never turned down a seat at the poker table and always had his bet ready when he was off to the races. He was a gifted storyteller, and could put a smile on anyone’s face with his jokes and stories. He never said no when asked to help a family member or friend. He enjoyed his life to the fullest on his own terms. He will be missed.

Many thanks to the ICU staff at Indiana University Hospital for their incredible compassion and care of Pete in his final days.

Pete’s wishes were to be cremated and the ashes interred with his grandfather, Delbert, whom he adored. Interment will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Hopewell Cemetery, Sheridan, Indiana.

Memorials may be made to the Sunshine Society of Montgomery County, P.O. Box 243, Crawfordsville, IN, 47933.
