Head downtown Sunday for annual Christmas parade

Posted

Home for Christmas is what many people dream of or plan to do, and this year’s downtown Christmas parade is geared toward that very theme.

The highly anticipated parade, sponsored by the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.

More than 60 organizations are registered to participate in the parade, which travels through downtown Crawfordsville. The route is primarily along East Main Street, starting at the railroad crossing near the post office, then turns south on Washington Street and turns east on Pike Street. Commentary about each parade entry will take place in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse from emcees Dave Peach from 92.1 FM WCVL and Cody Hargis from Hoosier Heartland State Bank.

Trophies also will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place recipients in both the adult and youth division.

“We are very excited about the Christmas Parade this year,” said Stacy Sommer, Chamber director. “We look forward to seeing the floats that everyone works so hard to decorate. Please join us to support the organizations and help to spread Christmas cheer to all.”

Some parade participants will distribute candy and children’s books, and as always, the parade will include Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The title sponsor is Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Santa Sleigh is powered by Acuity Brands, the Spirit of Christmas is Stevenson’s Ace Hardware and the judges are Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power, Lakeside Book Company and Tri-County Bank & Trust. The sound sponsor is Turn It Up Sound Productions.
