Herbalist will speak at CDPL

Posted

Constance Campbell Ferry of Hobbit Gardens Erth Gatherings Center in Fillmore will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Crawfordsville District Public Library.

She will share the benefits of herb gardening. Her class will include information on herbs, how to preserve them, how to get started and companion planting. She is hosted by the March Learning Series sponsored by the CDPL.

Ferry organically grows herbs, perennials, vegetables and produce on her herb farm in Putnam County. She creates herbal products from the herbs she grows and wildcrafts. She lives and works on 27 1/2 acres of woods, ravines, pastures and gardens. She has been growing for over 30 years.

Ferry shares her passion for the Earth by caring for the land and sharing her knowledge. She is a well-known herb educator for garden groups, schools, and associations around the country. Her gardens and shop have been featured in national newspapers and magazines.

Her unique apprenticeship program on the Putnam County farm offers a more profound learning opportunity for those interested in a greater understanding of how to use and grow herbs. In the program, students commit volunteer hours to the farm for hands-on experience in becoming an herbalist.

Ferry is a notable member of several organizations, including Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, The International Herb Association, The Herb Society of Central Indiana and the American Herbalist Guild Indiana Chapter.

Participants should pre-register for the program to secure an herb kit to take home. Herb kits can be planted that evening with special selections from the seed library. Registration is through the library events calendar or by calling the library directly.

The Crawfordsville Seed Library is a collaborative project between the Montgomery County Master Gardener Association and CDPL. Seed sharing and programs are open to the public and are free. The project relies upon donations and sponsorships from the community. For more information or suggestions, contact CvilleSeedLibrary@gmail.com.
