John Eugene Servies, 96, of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East.
He was born Aug. 9, 1923, at Crawfordsville, to the late Oscar Martin and Gladys (Graham) Servies.
He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1942 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On Oct. 8, 1943, he married Rosemary Potts, who preceded him in death Oct. 21, 2012.
John owned and operated Servies Insurance for more than 50 years and was also an auctioneer, bail bondsman and a realtor. He was a member of Whitesville Christian Church, the Byron Cox American Legion Post 72, V.F.W., Masonic Lodge #50 and the Shiner’s. He enjoyed mowing and working around the farm.
He is survived by his two sons, Bill (Lorie) Servies and James (Virginia) Servies; four grandchildren, Kristopher Servies, David Servies, Morgan (Jared) Smith and Lindsy (Jon) Green; and five great-grandchildren, J.R., Oscar D., Ava, Olivia and Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary; and a son, Robert.
There will be a private family funeral service Saturday, May 30, which will recorded and can be viewed on John’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com. There will be a public graveside service at noon Saturday, May 30 at Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating.
