WAYNETOWN — Playing a home game at Waynetown’s Freedom Festival on Saturday, did not deter Byron Cox Post 72 from taking care of business. Post 72 came out strong with 11 first-inning runs and defeated Speedway Post 500 18-0.

In the big first inning, Post 72 took advantage of five walks and five hits to grab the lead.

Crawfordsville’s Cayden Scott, Aiden Chiodo and Sam Gooch all had RBI singles. Scott later doubled in two runs to complete the inning that saw 15 Post 72 players come to bat.

Post 72 starting pitcher Dillon Heaton, who also was celebrating his birthday, pitched three innings and only surrendered a bad hop single. Heaton struck out five batters.

Kohen Bonebrake, the youngest player on the Post 72 team as a sophomore to-be, threw two hitless innings in relief in his first pitching appearance of the season. The righty faced the minimum six batters striking out three.

Post 72’s Scott recorded three RBI as did Chiodo. Aiden Ambriz-Cruz and Gooch each had two RBI.

Post 72’s record is now 15-2 and the team will travel to undefeated Terre Haute Post 346 (18-0)  today for a 7 p.m. game. In the only meeting between the two teams, Post 346 defeated Crawfordsville 10-0 in five innings on June 16. The game will be aired on Thunder 103.9 FM.
