Leslie Howard Ebaugh, 86, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at Witham Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 17, 1935, at Lebanon, to Buford (Bus) and Marjorie (Canada) Ebaugh. He married Loraine Kay Shoaf on Oct. 6, 1962, in Advance. She survives. They had the joy of spending 59 wonderful years together.

Leslie attended school in Advance and graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1953. He was a member of the National Honor Society and vice-president of his senior class. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He enjoyed country music, attending the Indianapolis 500, playing Euchre and spending time with his family. He honorably served in the US National Air Guard for six years.

Leslie with his wife Loraine owned and operated the New Ross Grocery from 1989 to 2000, for which they were famous for their bologna sandwiches and coney days. Leslie was a proud farmer in Boone and Montgomery counties his entire life. He liked to tell the story of his farming beginnings of helping his grandfather, George Canada, as a child and then milking cattle while he was in high school. His love for farming never ended.

Survivors include: wife Loraine K. Ebaugh; children, Libby Cowling of Indianapolis, Lisa Graham (Brain Kincaid) of Ladoga, Patrick Ebaugh (Cheryl) of Crawfordsville and Lachelle Day of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Constance Cowling (Dan Yohe), Diane Cowling (Eddie Hill), Christian VanDyke (Brandon), Desiree Cowling, Michael Graham (Sasha Keck), Quentin Day, Nickolas Ebaugh and Tyler Sutton (Taylor); seven great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Rowan, Kaia, Riley, Taylor, Iris, Sophia, and Serenity.  He also leaves behind his siblings, Tudie Beck, Lee Ebaugh, Martha Janssen and Mike Ebaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by sister Leanna Chappel and son-in-law Dan Day.

Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Porter and Hunt Funeral Home & Crematory, 315 W. Main St., Jamestown. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Jamestown. The family would like to request those in attendance to wear a mask.
