Mounties beat Mustangs for first win

Chargers win at Delphi

Southmont traveled to Fountain Central on Friday and came home with their first win of the season. The Mounties beat the Mustangs 15-2 in five innings.

Southmont had 11 hits in the game including a homerun by Dean McGaughey and a double each by Eden Hernandez and Phisher Benge.

The Mounties jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead when McGaughey hit his 2-run homer. It did not take long for the Mustangs to tie the score in the bottom on the first inning because Mustang Aiden Batchelor homered with a 2-run shot.

The Mounties offense scored 12 runs the next two inning while Mountie pitchers shutout the Mustangs the rest of the game.

McGaughey finished the game going 2-for-4 with five RBI. Phisher Benge had 3-RBI.

Gunnar Shirk, Colton Cory, Cooper Scott and Eden Hernandez each had two hits.

Benge pitched the first three innings and limited the Mustangs to five hits with five strikeouts.

McGaughey pitched the last two innings and gave up no hits and struck out four.

Fountain Central hits were from Batchelor, Uriah Wildman, Wyatt Clark, Noah Acton and Joan Cervantes.

Acton took the loss for the Mounties while pitching two innings. Wildman and Garrett Acton both pitched in relief roles.

Fountain Central (1-5) plays Monday at Western Boone (3-5). The Mustangs will play Tuesday at Seeger (2-5).

Southmont (1-5, 0-4 MAC) plays Tuesday at home against Monon Athletic Conference rival Frankfort (4-4. 2-2 MAC).

 

Chargers win at Delphi

North Montgomery recorded an 8-3 victory at Delphi on Friday. The Chargers never trailed in the game.

North’s bottom of the lineup produced four of the team’s six hits. The trio of Lucky Young, Sam Woolwine and Carter Thompson combined for four runs.

Young had a single and a double leading to 3-RBI.

Thompson started and earned the win. The sophomore pitched four innings and surrendered no hits with three strikeouts. The Oracles did scratch a run against Thompson in the fifth innings.

Oracle pitcher Brett Huffman entered the game with an 0 E.R.A. with a 2-0 record. The Chargers scored six runs with four earned runs in 4.1 innings.

Delphi committed five errors in the contest.

North Montgomery (6-1, 3-1 MAC) plays at home Monday against Covington (6-1). The Chargers play Tuesday at home against the Monon Athletic Conference leader Greencastle (8-0, 4-0 MAC).

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL

North 8th beat Frankfort

North Montgomery Middle School beat Frankfort 18-4 in four innings on Friday. Charger Cash Cole drove in five runs, scored three runs and had three hits.

The Chargers totaled 15 hits in the game. Ethan King, Carson Neal, Paxton Heide had two hits apiece. Kaden Grundy had three hits.
