A local farmer has submitted a new bid to continue leasing the former Montgomery County Poor Farm from the Board of Commissioners.
Wade Bennett made a cash rent contract proposal of $210 per acre over three or more years for the farm at the end of Whitlock Avenue.
Bennett’s current three-year contract expires in March. No other bidders came forward by the deadline.
Commissioners can formally accept the bid on Nov. 8.
The farm has three parcels comprising nearly 47 tillable acres. The commissioners had set a minimum cash rent of $206 per acre, based on the fair rental value.
