Paul Ray Oaks, 80, of Lebanon passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Witham Hospital, Lebanon.

He was born Aug. 25, 1943, to the late Ezra Oaks and Mary (Bunch) Oaks.

Living with special needs his entire life, Paul was frequently referred to as a miracle for his preemie birth and long, mostly healthy, life. Having a childlike demeanor, Paul almost always had a smile on his face and loved people. Paul loved music, especially children’s church songs such as “The B-I-B-L-E,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “Deep and Wide,” and many more, often tapping his toes along with the music. He was known for loving all kinds of hats, glasses, and stuffed animals that so many thoughtful people brought to him. His loving and teasing nature, and his big smile and bright blue eyes, made him a source of light and joy for all who knew him.

Paul will be greatly missed by his loving niece and nephew, Brandie (Jeremy) Hughes and Kevin Norris.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1975/76; brother Junior Oaks; and sister Betty Lou (Robert) Norris.

Paul was given so much love and care by his mother and father, as well as his sister and her family. He was in a group home through ASI for 20-plus years in Frankfort before moving to Essex Nursing and Rehab in Lebanon for most of the last decade. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his caregivers over the years with their love and special attention.

Friends and family will come together for a private ceremony Saturday, March 30 through Burkhart Funeral Home.

Paul faced life’s challenges with courage and a smile. Rest in peace, dear Paul. Your story of resilience, love, and kindheartedness will forever be remembered.
