Mustangs drop game

Fountain Central lost 13-3 in six innings Wednesday at West Lafayette.

After the Mustangs scored two runs in their first at-bat, the Red Devils scored three runs in each of the first three innings and plated four runs in the sixth inning to end the game.

Fountain Central was held to three hits in the game by West Lafayette pitcher Megan Creech.

Mustang Jackie Weber did have a double and one RBI to lead her team.

Fountain Central (4-3) played Thursday at home against Southmont (4-2) .

 

Cascade sweeps Mounties

Cascade’s offense had 18 hits propelling the Cadets to a 13-4 road victory over Monon Athletic Conference foe Southmont.

The Mounties struggled offensively for the second time this week against Cascade pitching.

Cadet senior pitcher Lacie Godby went the distance on the mound and gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out six Mounties.

Mountie Ella Barry had three hits including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Both Kaylee Turner and Sammie Crosby collected two hits.

Crosby took the loss on the mound.

Cascade is now 5-0 and 4-0 in the MAC.

Southmont (4-2, 2-2 MAC) traveled Thursday to Fountain Central and will travel Friday to Clinton Prairie.

 

Chargers blasted by Stars

North Montgomery is still searching for their first win after losing Wednesday to Western Boone 18-4 at home.

North Montgomery’s struggles in the field continued as they committed five errors in the game. Western Boone scored 10 unearned runs out of their 18.

Charger Mary Kate Patterson took the loss on the mound.

North has not played a complete seven inning game this season and has been outscored 106 to 19 in the season. One half of the runs allowed (53) have been unearned.

The Chargers (0-7) will play host to Attica (0-5) today.

 

Athenians lose to Tiger Cubs

Greencastle scored five first inning runs and never looked back in a 17-4 defeat at Monon Athletic Conference foe Crawfordsville on Wednesday.

Greencastle collected 11 hits in the game in the Monon Athletic Conference contest.

Crawfordsville had two hits against two Greencastle pitchers. Athenians Molly Pierce and Christina Susdorf had hits for the home team.

Crawfordsville made seven errors in the game which allowed the visitors to score six unearned runs.

The Athenians (1-7, 0-4 MAC) play Living Water Homeschool (7-4) today at the Athenian Sports Complex.

 

BASEBALL

Tiger Cubs complete sweep of Athenians

Greencastle (8-0, 4-0 MAC) defeated Crawfordsville 7-1 on Wednesday. The victory gives the Tiger Cubs a Monon Athletic Conference sweep of the Athenians.

Crawfordsville produced five hits against Greencastle hurlers Nathan Sutherlin and Cayden Scott. The duo struck out eight Athenians and did not issue a walk.

Athenian Mason McCarty had a single and double with one RBI in the game to lead Crawfordsville.

Crawfordsville pitcher Ethan Campbell took the loss by surrendering seven hits and four runs in two innings of work.

Crawfordsville (4-3, 2-2 MAC) will host their annual Athenian Invitational on Saturday. The Athenians will play Indianapolis Ritter (1-6) at 10 a.m. Lafayette Central Catholic (6-1) and Monrovia (2-3) will play at 12:30 p.m. The consolation is set for 3:30 p.m. and the championship will be at 6 p.m.

 

Chargers beat Stars

North Montgomery turned the table on Monon Athletic Conference foe Western Boone on Wednesday by defeating the Stars 14-2 in five innings.

The Charger offense exploded for 16 hits and two Chargers hurlers held the Stars to three hits.

The Chargers, taking advantage of six Western Boone errors, led 14-0 until the Stars scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Leading the North Montgomery hitting attack was Crew Cole who was 4-for-4 with four RBI and scoring two runs. Junior Lucky Young was 3-for-3 at the plate. Senior T.J. Hinds had two hits and scored three runs.

Chargers Jack Warren had two hits and four RBI and Carter Thompson had two hits with one RBI.

North sophomore Lincoln Heide earned the win by pitching 3.1 innings giving up two runs, two hits with three strikeouts.

Thompson pitched two outs in relief of Heide followed by Cole who threw a perfect fifth inning.

The Stars used three pitchers in the contest and sophomore Easton Nance took the loss.

North Montgomery (5-1, 3-1 MAC) will travel today to Delphi (5-1). Western Boone (2-5, 1-3 MAC) played Thursday at Sheridan (3-3).

 

Cadets drop Mounties

Southmont dropped its second Monon Athletic Conference game of the week by losing 13-4 on Thursday against visiting Cascade.

After both teams scored two runs in the first inning, the Cadet offense scored eight runs in the next three innings.

Cascade produced 15 hits in the game including a home run by senior Braxton Lewis.

Cascade used three pitchers to limit the Mounties to four hits. Mountie Junior Dean McGaughey was 3-for-4 at the plate and had three RBI.

Southmont (0-5) will play at 5 p.m. today at Fountain Central (1-4) . North Vermillion (1-6) will travel to Southmont for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.

 

GOLF

Southmont defeats Clinton Central

Southmont won a Tuesday match by defeating Clinton Central 152-194 at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

Mountie Carter Ludlow was the medalist by firing a 36. Other Mountie scores were Austin Foley 37, Ethan Hutchison 39 and Noah Vogel 40.

The Southmont men’s golf team won a dual match against Clinton Central on Tuesday at the Crawfordsville Country Club. The Mounties shot a 152 and Clinton Central 194.

Other Mountie scores were Austin Foley 37, Ethan Hutchison 39 and Noah Vogel 40.

The Mountie red team also played and shot 181. The team was led by freshmen Jack Sarver’s 42 and Carson Vaught’s 43. Dax Cottrell followed with a 47 and Conner Walls and Owen McCutchan each shot a 49.

Southmont played Thursday at Rivercrest Golf Club against Covington and Seeger. The team will play in the 21-team Danville Invitational on Saturday.

 

Chargers defeat Wolves

North Montgomery defeated Riverton Parke 171-175 on Wednesday at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.

Charger Isaac Hamby was the meet co-medalist with a score of 39.

Other Charger scores were Hayden Allen 42, Brody Roche 44 and Jackson Grundy 46.

North’s junior varsity won 200-235.

Chase Tipton was the medalist with 48. Other Charger scores were Mason Mills 50, Tyler Hintz 50 and Braylin Denham 51.

JV Also walked away victorious.

North Montgomery will participate Saturday in the Covington Invitational at Hillcrest Golf Club.

 

TENNIS

Mustangs defeat Bruins

Fountain Central defeated Tri-West 5-0 on Wednesday.

Mustang winners were No. 1 singles Elise Webb defeated Molly Dean 6-2, 6-0 and No. 2 singles Laney Hoagland beat Mya Young 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 singles Esme Muniz defeated Genevieve Tooley 6-1, 6-1.

The Mustang No. 1 doubles team of Mariela Hernandez and Rya Jackson beat Sydney Gross and Raegan Furry 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Jaydin Larkin and Lydia Perkins beat Ella Welsh and Jenna Black 6-1, 6-2.

Fountain Central traveled Thursday to South Vermillion.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Athenians sweep Knights

Crawfordsville girls and boys teams dominated Lafayette Central Catholic on Wednesday.

The girls won 108-24 and the boys won 99-33.

The boys won 13 of 16 events.

Athenian double winners were Josh Inskeep in the 1600M (4:22.76) and 3200M (10:42.28) and Logan Lowe in the 100 hurdles (16.21) and 300 hurdles (44.9).

The girls won 14 of 16 events.

Crawfordsville’s double winner was Katherine Novak in the 1600 (5:52.82) and 3200 (12:55.44).

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL RESULTS

North 8th baseball wins

North Montgomery Middle School’s eighth grade baseball team defeated Western Boone 20-6 in three innings Wednesday in Dover.

Cash Cole led the Chargers with four hits including a triple.

North will play host Monday to Southmont.

 

Charger 7th victorious

North Montgomery’s seventh grade baseball team won 23-0 at Western Boone on Wednesday.

Drake Elliott was the winning pitcher and threw a no-hitter.

The Charger offense produced six hits including a double by Aaron Welsh. Daniel Murdock had a 3 -RBI single.

Other Charger hits were by Sawyer Grote, Elliott, Hunter Delp and Warren Emmert.

The Chargers host county rival Southmont on Monday.
