Chargers sneak by Trojans
North Montgomery defeated Covington 3-2 on Monday at Charger Field. The Chargers won the pitchers dual.
Covington’s No. 1 pitcher Kyven Hill handcuffed the Charger offense while Charger sophomore Lincoln Heide made it difficult on the Covington batters.
Both hurlers gave up just two hits, but North was able to capitalize on a couple of Trojan errors and a hit batsman to score their three runs.
Covington (6-2) benefited from two Charger errors to score their only two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Hill pitched six innings and surrendered just two hits, two bases on balls and two strikeouts.
Heide pitched 4.2 innings and gave up only two unearned runs. The righty walked four and struck out six Trojans.
Charger designated hitter Sam Woolwine recorded one RBI and Lucky Young took a bases loaded walk to score North’s winning third run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
North Montgomery (7-2, 3-1 MAC) played host to Greencastle (8-0, 4-0 MAC) Tuesday. The two teams will play again Wednesday at Greencastle. Greencastle is ranked No. 1 in 2A in this week’s Indiana Baseball Coaches Poll.
Stars down FC
Western Boone won 10-8 on Monday at Fountain Central.
The Stars led 8-4 going into the final inning and added two more runs in their last at-bat to go up 10-4.
The Mustangs did not go down quietly as they scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Fountain Central had bases loaded when the last out was made.
Mustang Uriah Wildman pitched seven innings and gave up 10 runs, but only two earned runs as Fountain Central committed five errors.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Paul Adams who had three hits and scored two runs.
Fountain Central (1-6, 1-3 WRC ) played Tuesday at Wabash River Conference rival Seeger (2-5, 2-0 WRC) and will play the Patriots at home on Wednesday. The Stars (5-5, 1-3 MAC) played host to North Putnam (0-7, 0-4 MAC) Tuesday and will travel to Roachdale today.
GOLF
Red Devils top Athenians
West Lafayette defeated Crawfordsville 155-171 on Monday.
Crawfordsville scores were Owen Pierce 40, Jude Hurt 41, Caiden Murray 43 and Jordan Archer 47.
The Athenians will play Wednesday against Western Boone at Cool Lake Golf Club.
Chargers win at Harrison Hills
North Montgomery traveled Monday to Harrison Hills and defeated Attica and North Vermillion.
Scores were Chargers 175, Attica 209 and North Vermillion 226.
North’s Isaac Hamby was the meet medalist with a 41. Other Charger scores Brody Roche 44, Jackson Grundy 45 and Hayden Allen 45.
The Chargers will play host today to Cascade at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.
TENNIS
Fountain Central shuts out Attica
Fountain Central traveled Monday to Attica and defeated the Red Ramblers 5-0.
Mustang scores were No. 1 singles Elise Webb defeated Molly Peterson and at No. 2 singles Laney Hoagland beat Aubree Jones 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles Esme Muniz won 6-0, 6-0 over Julianne Rosswurm.
Mustang No. 1 doubles of Savannah Bowers and Lilly Peterson beat Hope Borst and Madison Bonebrake 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 doubles Marita Hernandez and Rya Jackson beat Lilijah Sichts and Raelyn Fieleke 6-1, 6-1.
The Mustangs will entertain North Montgomery today.
Jeff beats North
Lafayette Jeff defeated North Montgomery 4-1 on Monday in Lafayette.
North’s lone win came when No. 2 singles Cassidy Thomas beat Riley Green 6-2, 6-2.
Other match results were North’s No. 1 singles Kate Merica lost 6-1, 6-0 to Sydney North and No. 3 singles Caelyn Carpenter lost 6-3, 6-4 to Lafayette’s Carina Griffee.
Charger No. 1 doubles of Annie Hess and Isabelle Hamby lost 6-4, 6-1 and No. 2 doubles Lauren Kelp and Scarlette Hamm lost 6-4, 7-5 to Abby Bullock and Julia Dantas.
Crawfordsville blanks Hot Dogs
Crawfordsville played Monday at home and defeated Frankfort 5-0.
Crawfordsville’s No. 1 singles CC Cox won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 2 singles Mabel Hoar won 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles Kiera Toomey won 6-4, 6-4.
Athenians No. 1 doubles Isla Seward and Alayna Hall won 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 doubles of Elliott Baker and Sarah Melevage won 6-0, 6-0.
Crawfordsville’s JV team shut out the Hot Dogs 6-0 in matches.
SOFTBALL
Mounties top Parke Heritage
Southmont beat Parke Heritage 13-0 at home in five innings on Monday. South scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Leading the Mounties were Kenzie Clate with two hits and three RBI. Kendall Priebe had two hits and two RBI.
Mountie Ella Barry pitched five innings and allowed one hit and struck out 12 batters.
Southmont (6-2, 2-2 MAC) played Frankfort (0-6, 0-4 MAC) at home on Tuesday and will travel to Frankfort today.
Trojans beat Chargers
North Montgomery lost Monday 9-7 to Covington at home.
The Charges led 6-5 after four innings but four runs by the Trojans in the last two innings kept the Chargers at bay.
Covington out-hit North 11-4. Chargers hitting singles were by Ella McManomy, Kendra McClamroch, Paisley Gillan and Sophia Long.
North Montgomery (1-8, 0-4) played Monon Athletic Conference rival Greencastle (8-0, 4-0 MAC) on Tuesday at home and will play the Tiger Cubs on their field on Wednesday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
Charger 8th beats Mounties
North Montgomery Middle School’s eighth grade baseball team defeated Southmont 21-1 on the Charger’s home field. The game was called after two innings.
Chargers Travis Pierce was 3-for-3 and recorded five RBI. Carson Neal was 2-for-2, scored two runs and had three RBI.
Southmont’s E. Endicott, H. Beach, H. Cornelius and K. Maddock each had singles.
North’s starting pitcher Tyler Hintz gave up four hits and one earned run for the win.
